PARES contributes to the Chambers Global Practice Guide: Joint Ventures 2026

PARES authored the Portugal chapter of the Chambers Global Practice Guide: Joint Ventures 2026, published by Chambers and Partners.

The chapter was written by António Juzarte Rolo (Partner), André Rei (Senior Associate) and Marta Belchior (Associate), from the firm's Commercial and Corporate Law team. It provides a practical overview of the legal framework for joint ventures in Portugal and of the key issues to consider when structuring and developing them.

The topics covered include market conditions and industry trends, typical JV structures and the applicable regulation, including anti-money laundering, sanctions, foreign investment and competition law. The chapter also addresses negotiations between partners and the core terms of a JV agreement, including governance, funding, deadlocks and minority protection. It further covers the JV board, IP and ESG, and exit strategies.

The Chambers Global Practice Guides bring together analysis from selected law firms across key jurisdictions, allowing readers to compare legal frameworks from country to country. Our contribution aims to help companies and investors understand the Portuguese legal landscape and the main points to consider when setting up and managing a joint venture.
